the many art treasures and the greatness this country has produced
in the areas of culture and art. In not only painting, architecture
and sculpture, but also in music, literature and for example
design.
Think of Rafaël, Michelangelo, Leonardo da
Vinci and Botticelli. Or Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Vivaldi and
Monteverdi. With all of it's art treasures scattered across the
whole country, Italy is also sometimes referred to as an open air
museum.

Opening hours
Opening times can vary from place to place, but as a general rule
they are as follows:
- Shops: Open Mon. to Sat. 9.00 to 13.00 and from 15.30/16.00 to
17.30/18.00, but in larger cities and tourist areas often a lot
longer. Many shops are closed on Monday mornings.
- Banks: Open Mon. - Fri. 8.30 to 13.30. Sat. Sun. and
public holidays closed. Post offices are also open on Saturday
mornings. Larger offices also in the afternoons.
- Museums: most museums are closed on Sunday afternoons and
Mondays. Most museums also close between 13.00 and 15.00/16.00 or
are only open in the morning, but this is changing and a number
are open till 19.00 (especially in the North). During the winter
most museums have shorter opening hours.
- Churches: daily from 8.00/9.00 to 12.00 and 15.00/16.00 to
18.00/20.00, except during Mass. Many churches are closed on
Sunday afternoons. Pay attention to your clothes and wear
something appropriate.
